This my dog Rex, the possum killer! At night I'll send him out to patrol the yard for awhile and the other night he got one! By the time I came outside he was tossing it like a ragdoll. He's an awesome dog, he's scared of lighting & thunder but he'll tear up a stinkin' possum in a heartbeat!
Yeah I put the possum in the soft trap just to be sure he wasn't playing possum.

Have a good day! Miriam

Rex did a good job. He don't look to big either. What kind of dog is he? Those little ones can be fretty feisty when they have to be.

I agree! A guardian forum is in order in my opinion.

And way to go Rex! I hope he got a nice big milk bone for that one!

Rex is part Rat terrier & who knows what,he's the best dog.He only weighs 30 lbs. But he's tossed possums bigger than that one. We've got another dog, she's part Catahoula Curr & rat terrier, all she does is constantly bark when Rex has a possum.
Yeah, Becky he got some weinees for that one!

I've been reading the posts on this site for months and so enjoy all the input and feedback, what a great community!!
Decided to join today because last week I lost one of "my girls" to a weasel. (Thought I'd predator proofed my coop but learned the hard way that weasels can get into just about any area where you have cracks)
Last year I spent to much time around the new chick bin at the local feed store and bought 6 baby chicks. Converted an old outhouse on the property into a coop, had a friend move it into a covered area and fenced the area around it with 1" chicken wire, also buried wire around the outside to discourage predators. Constructed nesting boxes on top of the seats and the roost next to that (But neglected to notice all the small cracks where the boards were nailed together some 40 odd years ago)
Went out last Sunday morning to let the girls out and realized something was very wrong, lots of feathers around the outside bottom of the door. When I opened the door I found my "Big Mouth" girl (she was very talkative, hence the name) laying there dead and the rest of the girls blew past me trying to get out. The weasel was still in the coop, tiny little slip of a predator, standing over Big Mouth and, it seemed to be sizing ME up! Grabbed the closest weapon, a plastic rake and tried to brain it! It kept popping back up and I kept missing it.
Took Big Mouth out of the pen and laid her under the shed area and within minutes the weasel had found her and was trying to drag her off.
I spent two days shoring up the coop, wire and screen everywhere! Their roost is now a good 3 feet off the floor and the nesting boxes are connected to the wall. I've also been setting rat traps around.
My old cowdog Molly (who's been around them since they were babies)) goes out with me in the morning and spends a good hour in the pen with the girls after I let them out of the coop (She also spends another hour before night falls) Can't do anything more than that at this point. Never clipped the girl's wings, so they have lots of places to fly to if the little "s" shows up again.
I realize predator is a name I give it, but it has nothing to do with the fact that this weasel is:| just trying to survive and if I'm gonna have " my girls" I need to be more responsible.
Long read, sorry!
