Hi,

I am really new to all this and will be working with egg laying. I will post more on the breed of chickens but not sure yet my niece is giving me 5 hens and a rooster to start. I am currently working on the coop and as of today have the inside finished and will hopefully be ok but that is still to see. I should have the chickens this coming week.
I just recently retired and always want to have my own eggs in the morning just never had the time when I was working. I know I have lots to learn and looking at this forum it is just what I need..
I currently have two rescue kitties Tinker and Rudy and by sidekick German Shepherd Mieka. Her father was born in Germany so Mieka has a lot of the working shepherd in her. The family is my wife and I and the animals are our kids. I am also looking at working with animal rescue in the near future.

Hello Wayne. Welcome to BYC! There is tons of info here and very good people to help you on your journey as a new chicken owner. :)

I don't know how much reading/research you've already done, but if you want to get the most out of BYC, I suggest you do the following:
  • Spend some time in the Learning Center
  • When you have specific questions, most of the time a quick search will come up with the answers.
  • If you don't find anything useful that way, post your question in an appropriate sub-forum. People here are very helpful and will answer your question even it has been asked 100 times before.

:welcome hey Wayne Wilson.. I am PennyJo Mossyrock, Washington state
so glad you joined us I have also 15 year old GSD, Fear her Grandad was from Germany I brought him to America many, many moons ago... feel free to post photo's
