We are building our coop mostly out of pallets. I work at a truck stop and was able to get 3 double sized pallets, 1 sheet of 1/2" plywood and 4 1"x4" boards for free. So far we have only spent $119, which was a 1/4" plywood, 1/2" particle board, 2 2"x4"s, fencing, hinges, and locks! Any advice?

I forgot to take pics before this point.

First wall is up!

2nd wall and most of 3rd wall are done!

The Chicken door (closed).

Chicken door (open).

Three full walls!

I will add pics as the coop progresses!

Any advice for us?

a great start for sure and wonderful to be able to use recycled materials (we did the same). Just wondering where your windows are going to go?

One window is cut out completely and the other is half cut (saw battery died-will finish tomorrow). I cut out the hole for the nesting boxes and got them installed today! Looking good! Will post again tomorrow.

Looks great!
What sort of climate do you live in? It may be good to know since it could help with window/vent placement.

Great use of recycled boards. I'm also designing my coop similarly with 2 ft. long 4x4 as the base.. Um, how do you deal with the gaps in the walls (esp. in photo with the chicken opening at lower left). I have some leftover old fence boards that I'd like to reuse myself but can't figure out how to seal 'em.... thanks for your tip!

Sorry! Just saw these posts! We live in North East, MD.

We used leftover plywood to seal most gaps and caulking for others.

I will have to post new pictures tomorrow. For some reason they aren't posting from my cell phone.
