We took an outbuilding made of 6 utility posts, tarp walls and a multi layered roof and converted half into a coop. "Hillbilly carpentry at its best" is what my husband calls it. We tried to use what we had and bought what we needed. Even the kids helped! Our chickens are free range so we do not need a run. We used covered kitty litter pans for nesting boxes.
I don't know how to post pics so here is the Facebook link.
My only question is the top half is chicken wire. We are in NC and the winters are mild. Do we need to cover the wire some how for warmth? The roof Hans out enough that it does not rain in the coop.

I don't know how mild you're talking, but I'd probably opt to cover at least the prevailing wind side(s) for winter....maybe screw a tarp, clear shower curtain, or clear vinyl cloth (sold at fabric stores - the stuff many use to cover tablecloths on picnic tables and such)... Your coop turned out cute! Make sure that chicken wire is really well nailed into place, as its not the sturdiest wire...

I would continue the plywood all the way around so that the chickens are not in a direct breeze in winter. The wire on the exterior of the coop should be hardware cloth or some other durable wire. Most any predator can easily tear apart chicken wire.

Nice adaptation.
