A fishing buddy of mine, who also happens to be a psychiatrist stopped by this morning to pick up some fishing flies I tied for him. I was sitting out on the deck as I do every nice morning having my coffee. I offered him a cup and we sat talking about this and that (no, we're just friends!

). I'd let my hens out and they were milling around free-ranging in the yard.

We were talking right along when all the sudden he stopped. He was watching the hens as they scratched about. "That's really interesting" he said watching intently. We continued watching for five or ten minutes. "I never noticed how intriguing it is to watch them, how relaxing it is just watching them do their thing could be." He's been to my house dozens of times but this was the first he'd really paid a lot of attention to the chickens.

"Oh my!!! he said excitedly, "That ones has a worm!" A kind odd feeling washed over me. I was quite amazed somebody as intelligent as he was, and who'd seen so much in his life would be this mesmerized (yes, that's the best fitting word) by chickens!

"You know" he said," I know a lot of people in my practice that could use something like this." "It's extremely calming and peaceful just watching them be chickens." Jokingly I said "sure, bring anybody out you want, fifty bucks, we'll get them so relaxed they'll need a steroid shot just to drive home!" He laughed and then with a pretty serious look on his face "don't joke too much, crazier things have happened."

So, anybody that wants to get in on the ground floor, PM me and we'll start a chain of these "relaxation ranches" across the country!!!

We tell all the neighbors to come over and "chicken watch" with us after a hard day at work. Its very theraputic, we never hardly ever squabble or nit pick anymore since we've been chicken watching

Warning, This may sound like I'm tooting my own horn, but I'm not really: I'm a nationally published writer, who at 28 years old plays in the pro poker circuit, owns a succesful small business and has traveled and lived all over.

I have had 2 lifetimes of life experiences and have held jobs with Scripps Howard (Food Network, HGTV), Poker Pro Magazine and an affiliate of Google.

And yet.. sitting in my chicken coop is really the only time I feel peace, feel relaxed or feel at home. It's insane how much those birds do for me, and how much they have probably saved me in antidepressants, antianxiety and therapy medications/treatments.

Granted, I'm no doctor.. but there is certainly to this idea of yours!

Out in the yard swing with the chickens free ranging with a ice tea or lemonaid is just peace. It is my favorite thing to do in the evening. I love sharing it with people. My husband who wasn't into the idea of chickens likes to sit with me and watch them too.

heehee... my problem is that I just really don't like PEOPLE that much...

I guess I'd have to have a public chicken viewing area separate from everything else, or pay somebody to be a babysitter for the viewers!

It is a great idea though, "chicken therapy." Hey do you think they'd let me bring Emily (my NH Red) to work??
