Help! First-time chick owner, here, again. Ummm, we got 11 chicks and 7 are roosters. They are Heritage birds. We have 2 lavender orpington roos, 1 black ameracauna roo, 2 coukoo maran roos, 1 black french maran roo and 1 blue copper maran roo. I dont think we are supposed to have that many roosters in one flock, right? They are 8-10 weeks old and starting to "face off" with eachother. Some more than others. Nothing violent and for the most part they are very friendly and socialized. The kids play with them all the time. We are trying to find homes for them where they won't be cooked! What can we do?

Depending upon the quality of the roos, I would think you should have a good chance of rehoming them just because they are rarer attractive breeds. Put them up on CL, let the 4H clubs know about them... I've been lucky and have always gotten something for my roosters even if it's $5. Never enough to cover what I have into them but at least something.

Are you sure they are all roosters? I had a chicken that I thought was a rooster up until she laid an egg. Can you post some pictures?
