Hello!
I’ve been starting to have a problem with this white cotton looking growth around the run. I’ve been keeping the run clean for the most part but its been growing where they graze, so I’d like to know how to get rid of it. I live in the good ol’ hot state of Texas where it’s been humid and 90+ all week. It seems to grow on the feed but only the feed that I throw kinda around for them to peck and dig at on the ground. (I’ve since stopped doing that since the cotton stuff started).
Anyone know what this is? How do I treat it without using anti-fungal pellets that are a hazard for them to consume?

It's good that you stopped throwing out the feed like that, boy it can get moldy overnight!

How to treat it? I have no idea, I would shovel it up and get rid of it. Yep, it may leave a bare spot in the yard, but a bare spot is better than sick birds :)

Pelleted feed gets mouldy within a few hours if thrown out on the ground. In hot humid climate it takes even less time.

After shoveling it up I would spray the ground thoroughly with apple cider vinegar several times a day.

You might want to throw some barley or wheat (whole grains) for entertainment.

We get the same stuff here in Florida, but rather than try and kill it, I just change the environment so that it doesn't like to grow there any more. Removing the feed, and letting some sun get to the area should cause it to disappear.

Spray it with a diluted solution of bleach. That will kill the fungus and probably the grass too. Keep the birds out of it for a little while. Might even hit it with a garden hose before you let the birds back out.
