My husband had to move to California for work. He lives in a studio apt on the 3rd floor and has a small balcony in front of his apt. He hung several potted flower plants from the roof line. He came home from work several weeks ago to find all the flowers smashed. He thought "vandals". Several days later he opened the curtains to find a dove in one of the planters. She came and went for about 10 days. He bought food and put out a dish of water for her. He soon began to see twigs and stuff in the planter. He put out nesting material for her. Lo and behold, she made a nest in the planter and is sitting on 2 eggs. He keeps the curtains closed so as not to disturb her. He tiptoes through the door to go to and from work. The nest is not that deep so he built a box and attached it to the railing so if a baby fell from the nest it wouldn't fall 3 stories. He calls me every other day to update me on how "HIS" bird is doing. He calls himself a "Dovedad". All this from a man who shook his head when I bought chickens 3 years ago and said he just didn't understand what all the fuss was about a "bunch of 'birds'".
