I am proud to announce the first egg of my only hen!!!!

Here is the expectant father waiting proudly outside the chicken house.

and here is the egg!!!!

So cool!!!!!

I was outside and saw our Roo just waiting outside the house. I looked all over for our hen, trying not to get to excited, but I knew she was in there!!!! Roo was protecting the house, so I had to sneek a peek! She was in there behind a nest box, just standing over her egg!!!!

Then she left!!!! So much for motherhood!!!!

SO.....I cant eat my first egg!!! It is like our baby! Is there a way to hatch it? Any ideas on a home made icubater wiht a light bulb? Or is it crule to only hatch one chick? Or maybe she will lay again tomorrow!!??

What will the hen act like if she is broody?? Or is it obvious and she just wont leave the egg?

Its better to let her lay a while before trying to hatch them.

A broody hen won't let you NEAR her egg - she'll GROWL at you !

Santa even brought my 9 year old an egg blowing kit!

My Father in law made me wooden egg stands on his lathe to showcase them!!
I've been learning to do polish egg painting too!
