Hi there, We have a baby chick that hatched yesterday ( we named it July) she/he seems to be doing fine. I do think July is lonely tho.Our other eggs didn't hatch they died I think that is because the eggs were small so maybe they didn't have a chance. I will be pulling 8 more eggs from the incubator tomorrow so hopefully some will hatch on Wed. Can a chick die because it is lonely? Also One of our big chickens died today I'm guessing from the heat it reached 110 here in Kansas today. I changed their water and all was fine then about 2hrs later my son went out and came in and said one was dead and sure enough she was there on the floor. Could she have smothered herself with dirt trying to stay cool she had dirt in her nose? Everyone else was doing fine. Here is a picture of July not to long after she hatched.
One more ? what is the best thing to do if the cord stays attached? Thanks for all the help

I'm sorry to hear about your troubles. The heat is terrible! You should get little July a buddy. Chickens like company, they are social creatures, like us. Leave the cord if it's still attached. It'll fall off by itself. And
