The amount of meat on a dp bird will never even be close to a cornishx but they do have a good flavor to them. Butchered 175 CornishX broilers and 42 DP roosters total last year.
DP 18wk old barred rocks (hatchery quality so not as meaty)
That is pretty much what mine looked like. There was a lot more leg bone than I'm used to but it wasn't off putting. There wasn't much meat but considering they were living totally free range, eating mostly what they forage, you'd expect it.
I have two 15 week old sussex roosters who will be next. My Marans, silkie, frizzle and Pekin roos I'm keeping, unless they misbehave!
