Hello! Two weeks ago we received 12 baby chicks in the mail from Ideal Poultry and 2 of said chicks are not fairing as well as the others. Sassafras the red-shoulder Yokohama and Molasses the Saipan Jungle Fowl are the two not doing good. For the first week they both remained the exact size. Both are weak and wobbly when walking. Eating, drinking, pooping all normal. But they sleep a lot and are nowhere near as active as the others. After searching the internet and BYC we tried Nutridrench for this past week (after previously starting the chicks on Gro-gel and Sav-a-Chick when they first arrived). Molasses seems to be doing better now. Still small. Still not as active. BUT she at least is showing small improvement on size, feather growth, slightly more active. However, Sassafras has not improved whatsoever. She hasn't grown AT ALL, only moves to eat/drink, breathes really heavy. I feel at this point the Nutridrench is just keeping her alive and not really helping her. My hubby and I are kind of at a loss what to do. The other chicks are now 2 weeks old and towering over these two. For the most part they are aware of the 2 smaller ones, but accidents happen. I read all the time about "strive to thrive" but I am not sure what to do at this point. We've tried gro-gel, save-a-chick, sugar water, fruit, protein, nutridrench. Running out of ideas on what the best next step is. I mean, this chick literally looks the EXACT same as it did 2 weeks ago. Its like time has stopped for her. She's weak and stiff moving, but she eats and drinks. She seeks comfort and cuddles from the others. Any ideas or help?

Sorry no pictures, but having troubles loading them.

You mention the above. Move the 2 weaker chicks to a separate brooder or if you have room to create a barrier in the brooder you have now, that would be good. The other chicks can walk on them causing injury.

If you make a separate brooder, place a couple of stuffed animals near the heat source for Sassafras to snuggle into.

The breathing heavy is concerning. Some chicks do fail to thrive no matter what we do. You are doing what you can for them. I would keep up with the Nutri-Drench and see the will eat wet chick starter.

Look forward to the photos.
