So this evening as well as cleaning out their water dish and checking food levels, I was having @Purple Rose and her brother work on cleaning out the whole brooder box and putting in fresh bedding. My contribution to this was to hold the cardboard box lined with a puppy pad that the girls were going to stay in while the cleaning out happened.

Or so I thought. Cera, our biggest and most curious girl who loves to explore, decided that the box was too small for her, and flew up to the edge.

My son got to admire her up close, as she showed off how well her feathers are growing in and what a breeze she can produce flapping away.

Then she decided to fly across the box, and over to my shoulder. Her aim was a bit off, she actually landed more on my cheek, and left a slightly bleeding scratch. First blood to Cera, the shoulder chick. She continued to wander and explore.

Steggie flew up out of the box to see me

And then Terri the Tiny, our eensy weensy bird, actually flew up out of the fox and clambered up to sit on my shoulder!

Tyra finally flew up to join them, and Cera came back over to me, and I was wearing our whole flock! It was adorable. I loved it. That nightshirt's in the laundry now, because unsurprisingly they pooped on my left shoulder, but it was fun.

@Purple Rose started putting chicks back in the brooder, and Cera opted to ride down with Terri.

Boxes can be tricky with chicks because usually they're not high enough so putting some fencing like chicken wire over the top will prevent them from flying out.

One time I came home to all 12 of my chicks running around making a mess all over the floor and house :lau

The chicks are so cute!

Isn't it fun when they start doing that? :love

I have a dozen chicks that range from 4-6 weeks. When I open the top of the brooder, they all fly up to greet me now. I don't have enough room to support the entire flock at the same time, but it doesn't stop them from trying. I thought I had hit my limit last night with five perched on me, but my little cockerel suddenly flew up and nestled between my breasts, I'm guessing because it was the only space left. Since my hands, arms and shoulders were all full, there wasn't much I could do about it. Had to have my hubby start plucking chickens off of me so I could move again. :lau

They'll be going outside in a week or two, soon as we finish up securing the run. I am wondering if they will still want to cuddle with me after they experience the great outdoors. Time will tell, I guess.
