Weasel 😭

Hi! I had the same thing happen to me a few years ago. Killed about 8 chickens. It hasn’t come back since because we tried to shoot it. It was to fast. Not sure how you prevent it unfortunately. Mabey add some fake cats or something? They will kill full grown chickens (our encounter killed a few baby chicks as well).

How devastating. I’m sorry that happened to you. We have a couple feral cats that apparently roam around here (I catch them on the security cameras) and I have dogs. I truly hope it was just passing through since there’s been a drought. I’ve never seen one here before but it was very close to the chicken run. I have a BB gun ready or maybe I should use a .22? Yes, they are super fast, so I’d probably miss. Thanks for your reply. Just want to keep my gals safe.

Thank you! We also have a cat and dog but they did not work for it coming the first time. I think the gun really scared it. I would use the .22. I hope you don’t miss, but if you shoot it it will be better to use a stronger gun so you kill it first shot if you hit it!

Did you determine whether or not it was a ferret or a weasel? Are there ferrets in AZ? Because any ferret would be protected -- they are endangered.
I could not tell for sure, just that it was “weasel like.” Yes there are ferrets here and they are endangered so most likely a long tailed weasel. We decided that we’d get a live trap and can call fish and game to see what to do. We back up to a national forest, a lot of animals are making their way down.
