Webworms - will they eat em?

This morning I found this cluster of webworms on our Sweet Gum tree and after looking, on an Oak tree, too. At first I thought about what I might do to get rid of them...spray or chicken protein...of course, the chickens won out. The worms were being held in place by a web so when I brushed them off they came down in a cluster. I laid them on the ground in front of the chickens and they were very cautious but eventually they ate every one. I hope that I did the right thing. Anyone have similar experiences?

Cut branch and burn them before they escape. Helps a lot. All those that hatch will have babies also. We did that Everytime up north and it helped
