Okay, so my father brought home some pig feed and insisted that I could feed it to my chickens. The guy at the feed store said he feeds it to his chickens, but did Dad ask if the guy gives two bits about his birds? Of course not! Cheaper the better, right?

They are now asking why I am sticking my nose up at it. Please, am I being reasonable? I'm not above giving my chickens pig feed, in fact I have read that it can be very good for them. But the fact that the feed has weevils means that it is old. The amount of them means that they have eaten most of the nutrients out. Also, bugs poop. Everywhere.

Is there any chance that I can still give it to them? Will they eat it?

I doubt it will hurt them but I am sure it is not optimal for chickens, and medicated with what I wonder? Since it seems Dad is footing the feed bill maybe you should start selling eggs and buying proper feed....

Good luck

Gary
Hey, Gary!
I didn't mean for it to come out like that. I guess I should check over my stuff before I post. I do buy my own feed, he just wanted to 'surprise' me. I might freeze it to kill the bugs.... These are breeders, and I am selling hatching eggs.

I went out and checked. It's medicated with Carbadox. Uncle Google says it's for swine reproductive health. Is 50 g/ ton enough to hurt them?

yeah but wont they eat the "bugs" esp spread out so they can see the bugs"
Like the" RAH RAH" weevils are in lots of my stuff. so I took the 6lb bag of sunsflower seed out to the carport in a drywall lidded bucket and stuck in a "Pantry Pest " trap
I can kill them everyday the creepos..infesting bugs... I have traps in sev places in the kitchen....I keep most everything in glass jars and lidded buckets and closed cabinets...
the "RAH" bugs are so hard to get rid of they even destroyed my organic orange peelings I was saving. Even got into my dedyrated cayenne pepper. RAH RAH
just my two cents worth thanks all

So they got into your house? Oh, man. Sorry to hear that. Perhaps that is a good excuse to get a chicken diaper and turn a hen loose on them.
As for me freezing them, I don't plan to do so in the house. We have a chest freezer that my brother uses for his... taxidermy.
