Weevil Infested Pig Feed

Um, er, I heard that insect-infested feed was bad for them somewhere (not sure), even if they do eat beetles and worms in the garden. I think it could have something to do with the insect "waste products" and dead bodies.

For those with grainpests in the house: Traps cannot end the problem, because immature insects tend to live near their food sources. Just throw all the old infested stuff away and seal your new containers, although it might not be easy. I have seen Indianmeal moths breeding in old rose petals; the insects probably break down leaflitter and other organic debris in the wild.

Always err on the side of caution; I would not advise that you sterilize the feed and then use it on your hens, unless someone more knowledgeable comes along and disproves my "infested foods are bad for chickens".

I went out and checked. It's medicated with Carbadox. Uncle Google says it's for swine reproductive health. Is 50 g/ ton enough to hurt them?

I would NOT use it.

I decided not to, as well. I'll let Dad know about the carbadox if he asks why I'm not using it... Thanks, Kiki.
I'm in complete agreement with Kiki. I'm relieved that you've decided not to use it. It's always best to buy the proper feed for your chickens. Or proper feed for whatever livestock you're feeding.

Last year I purchased chick starter for my chicks that was medicated with Monensin. Monensin is fine for chickens...but not for guineas. I have guinea keets in with my chicks. I was very glad I listened to the nagging voice that was questioning it and looked it up. It's best to err on the side of caution when dealing with livestock that produce products for human consumption; eggs and meat.
