Hi all, this is my 1st thread. i've been keeping chickens for about a year and have had no real problems, 3 months ago i changed my girls layer pellets to Verm-X range layer pellets, since then I've noticed their egg production has really slowed down (i was getting 6/7 eggs a day even during the winter months but now getting 1/3) also they all have lost weight. on the old pellets i'd use a 20kg sack in a month but the new 1 is lasting longer, this last sack is almost 6 weeks and i'd say i still have about a 1/4 of a sack left. Should i change back to the old food. Thanks for any advice given. regards Ang

To start if you are feeding a good feed and they are doing good---laying good, then all of a sudden they slow down laying----don't change their feed----hens do slow down from time to time. Stress, getting upset, getting sick, etc, etc can effect their laying too. When is the last time you wormed them? Is their breast bone, breast area thin, boney? If so and you have not wormed them in a while--they probably need worming??

I bought feed my girls didn't like a couple of times. And consumption went down as did egg production. Buy the feed they liked and see what happens. And if they eat it like they're starving, toss out the old. Check the date on bottom of bag to make sure it's fresh. GC
