One or two of my chickens are making a random strange cough/hiccup sound, sounds like a clucky cough if you can picture it. Is this okay? It is maybe once every 10 minutes, sometimes longer. They are silkies. They do it more when they eat their crumbles. I have them currently inside in a crate, and I had a plate of DE in there that got sturred up, could it be from them inhaling it? I have taken it out, it was just because i'm treating them for lice.

Hi there yes I know exactly what you mean.. Like a strange sneeze/squeak/chicken sound. My silkie came home from auction ( yes bad move) and started this. I thought hmm a cold?? Anyway some time on and now I'm battling with canker. She is in a bad way but doing ok and I finally got the metronidazole in her yesterday. I hope to save her. I don't want to alarm you at all but if you can find fishzole or a pidgeon canker treatment that will arrive quickly online have it at hand. My mistake was not being prepared and having to wait a long time for it to arrive. And get looking in their mouths for early signs. Yellow muck in around their mouths and throats and you can sometimes feel the lesion growths in the crop. It will smell bad and look like cheese.. Pretty grim really

If 2 are showing signs look at everyone's mouths and treat them all it's very contagious and at early stages one tablet is suffient. Fishzole is for fish but works just as good or a harkers one is good. Don't take what I say as definite though I wouldn't want you shoving your birds full of the wrong medication but I'm just letting you know what it could be from my recent experience.

Hope this helps

it would be okay to try it though right? wouldn't hurt. Where can I get it? They do get yellowish stuff stuck around their mouths but I thought it was from the food, could have been their food was wet but still. If you could send me a link that would be awesome

I found some leftover metronidazole benzoate soft chews from my cat, but they say BOD 19/nov/2011. I shouldn't use them should I

I ordered some tablets but they won't be here for a week. I gave them some garlic to try to help boost their immune systems. I have no luck with these chickens =( They are coughing more frequently now.
