Hello~ I'm kind of new to the chicken thing, we have 4 hens and only one has started to lay eggs yet. So far they're kind of small which I found out was normal for the first eggs but... I found an egg this morning that I believe was laid by Chicken (yes her name is Chicken) and it was under the roost like she had pooped it out instead of laying it in the box. But it looked like it had another soft eggshell or membrane stuck to it that was really gritty when I pulled it off. The fully formed egg also had dark wet discoloration where the membrane/eggshell was on it.

I don't have any pictures but it also had two "meat spots" in the egg when I opened it... I'm not sure if this is normal but I just want to make sure she is okay. (it is her 5th egg so far)

At the top of this forum there is an article posted called "Common Egg Quality Problems." It has a lot of good pictures and gives posible reasons for the problem. You might look through there and see if one looks like yours.

I've already looked through that one already but I didn't find anything like my problem. :c

It's probably just a new layer glitch.....
.....it can take a month or so for them to use the nests regularly and things to smooth out.
Meanwhile, eggs everywhere, some of them can be rather funky looking, soft or thin shelled, huge double yolked eggs.
If you get another odd one, it's good to take pics of it.

Here's a whole slew of weird eggs:
