One of our hens (gold line) laid a strange egg today. Usually brown but this one was very pale, strange shape and irregular texture to the surface. Any ideas on what this means?
Thanks

i do know that chickens will occasionally lay strange shaped eggs...I am not sure if this one means anything...how is the shell? is it hard, or soft? How long has she been laying?
I would keep an eye on her tho to make sure she returns to normal.

Also double check the calcium they receive is neither too high or low...I do free feed eggshells back to the chickens separately from their food.

The shell seems strong. Not been laying for long. We've had them for just over 2 weeks but I think they were just into lay as we bought them. Like 24 weeks or so.all of her eggs previously have been normal.will definitely keep an eye on her. Keeping backyard hens is still new to me, so i'm a tad paranoid lol

Even more common for early eggs to be weird! Just the internal stuff working itself out! I would be wondering too...so coming here and asking is the thing to do!
After cracking the egg, the shell was quite thin and very watery inside. The yoke was very vibrant though.

My hens have laid a few eggs that actually have multiple wrinkles in the shells but when cracked open, they are perfectly good, yummy eggs! It's just another one of the weird things that can come out of newly laying hens.
