Weird eggs? Why and how do they happen?

Hi all
The other day I picked up a strange egg laid by one of my Red Stars. It had a crushed in side and end, and had a stringy parts of yolk and egg attached to it.. Thought s on this?

Approximately 2% of all egg laid are odd or malformed in some way. It's usually caused by stress or a disturbance during the calcification process and in some cases by disease. It's also more common in very young and very old layers.
