Weird Nail Growth

Hi. I noticed that my cockerel appears to have a nail growing in a weird place.

I'll probably just trim the nail as needed. I was hoping someone might know why's he growing that nail there. I'm assuming it's something to do with feather growth gone wrong. Nothing in his family line has an extra toe, but also Cody, a cockerel of his same lineage, is growing a small tuff and shouldn't have that in his lineage either. I just got a couple of weird cockerels I guess.
