I have a two week old turkey poult who started cheeping up a storm and trying to fly out of the brooder. We have a screen on the brooder to keep them from getting out, but it keeps flying up and bouncing off of the screen. I tried putting a cloth on the screen so it could see it was there in hopes that it would stop, to no avail. It has beat its wings bloody, it's been trying so hard. The other 10 poults keep looking at it like it is deranged.

I have it out of the brooder right now to give its poor wings a break. It keeps cheeping, but not as loudly and has settled down on my lap.

It has been eating and drinking fine and has no outward sign of disease. It has game bird feed and fresh water at all times, and I clean the brooder every morning.

Any ideas what's up with this guy?

They may be right. Seriously though, you would think if something was startling or scaring it, the other babies would react. If it's eating/drinking normally, it sounds like it may just be a spaz.

Maybe it is a spaz, lol. If it is, I wonder what set it off. Never acted like this before today.

I ended up having to take it with me in the car to pick up my son from work, lol. He just wouldn't let me put him back in the brooder box. The only place he quiets down is on my lap.

Think I will keep it separated though, just in case its sick. It doesn't seem really bonded to the other poults.

I had the same problem with my two poults, who are about 6 days old now. For the first 2 days, they would squawk non stop and try desperately to jump out of their brooder. I got 10 chicks and put them in the brooder with them. Now they are much happier. I think they were lonely, even though there was two of them to begin with.
