I acquired 4 used EE's. A few months ago.
All laying great for 1 to 2 yr old range as I was told.

One dear girl lays a jumbo blue 6 out of 7 days. (The black and white in front)
However, her eggs are balloon shaped, thin shell, with tons of calcium bumps, esp at what should be the small end.

We dont care, we eat these and give the prettier ones away.

She has full access to organic layer feed, switched from layena(no difference)well water and free range.

No other shell problems with 7 other hens laying. Wait, one also adds calcium pimples, sometimes.

So...when I take the calcium away....occasional rubber egg shell and broken.

I am pretty for sure her shell gland is permantly damaged thru injury or illness.

Any ideas on healing her?

eta: She takes longer than the other hens to lay...I think it's difficult and we want her comfortable and healthy most importantly!

I'm checking it out now, Thanks!

If the damage is permanent, and I imagine it's been a good while, going on like this, but it's okay, we know her eggs, and they are as tasty as every other, oh, there is occasionally extra calcium clusters inside but, no problem I can use the xtra at my advanced age.

If there is a possible vitamin deficiency elsewhere, I might as well try to provide different vitamins and minerals and supplements to help her, as long as they don't hurt. Glad it's probably not more uncomfortable than normal.
