First timer here.

Today is day 1 of construction! Our chicks arrive next week and we will be working on this coop /run over the next couple months. Storage tank will be blocked off along with a portion of the right side of this room with our reverse osmosis equipment. The other space in this building has gone to complete waste in the 7 years we’ve lived here. I’m excited for what’s to come and I’ll be popping in for questions along the way!

How thoroughly sealed is the well house section going to be?

How deep is the well?

Can you be 100% CERTAIN that your well CANNOT POSSIBLY be contaminated by chicken manure with them being housed right next to it?
We are building a wall down the middle of this building. There will be 5 ft of space from the wall to the well/equipment. Here are pics of the other half of the room that they will not have access to that we will use for feed/equipment storage.

I’m not sure about depth of the well.

The reason I asked is that I'm thinking of the problem of chicken manure filtering down through the ground into the well.

Almost like putting your well under your septic leach field. :(

Thinking about it a little more, you might want to look up your local regulations about how wells can be sited to find out if there is a requirement for a certain amount of setback from livestock housing.
My husband says neither of those would be an issue in our case. Idk the details on that kind of stuff but he does. This building is on an extremely thick slab on concrete and is a very large space. I don’t see how it would even be possible for manure to get into our well.
I did check with the company who services our reverse osmosis system on a monthly basis and they said we were good to go.

Chickens make a lot of dust/dander. Unless you have a solid wall between the coop area and your well area, everything will be covered in the dust/dander. It ain't pretty.

Yes so I hear lol. I’ve spent hours researching this page and have definitely read about the amount of dust they cause😬. The wall at first will only be solid halfway with some leftover shiplap we have laying around. I’m not concerned about the dust at this point. There is nothing in here I can see being an issue collecting dust. There is also a lot of ventilation in here as well with windows and ceiling vents. But I guess if it does become an issue for whatever reason we can make it solid down the line.
