Welsh Harlequins Arrived

McMurray does not hatch ducklings. When you order from them the ducklings come from Metzer in CA. You could have saved yourself some money and got sexed Welsh Harlequins for less than you paid for straight run. Metzer is a backyardchicken.com sponsor.

Thanks for the info. Good to know for next time.

GrayRider- Were you right about the initial bill color/sexing?

Yes, looks like I was correct. I have 4 definite drakes. The rest seem to be all females, based on the loud quack they make and the dark gray bills they're developing. The drakes bills are turning from gray to a nice yellow/orange. Plus they don't quack near as loud as the girls. : )

Any chance you'll update that picture now? I'm curious if your flock has had their next molt and what all their heads/plumage look like now!

Here's what they look like today. (Hatched on 3/2/14)

Not quite 100% adult colors but getting close. The drakes are just starting to show the iridescent green head. All the ducks have the blue speculum indicating their Silver phase heritage. Sold off my surplus ducks. These are the ones I kept for breeding.

So that means this is their final moult into the adult feathers now?

It looks like I ended up with all drakes, unfortunately. Now I'm trying to find a hen to go with the best looking drake after mine finish feathering in. The other 3 drakes have a pond with a floating island to go to. Where in Florida are you?

I'd post a picture but my internet isn't working right...

It seems so.

I'm on the east coast, just south of Daytona.

Your photo looks like all drakes to me as well. Also, the females have very loud quack. My drakes are practically mute by comparison. Unmistakeable once you hear them.

You might want to check Craigslist. A few days ago there were some people in Jacksonville, Gainesville and Homosassa selling Welsh Harlequins.

I hope to have some ducklings from mine eventually.
