Welsummer chick gender

I see the color difference, is the darker striping the girl or any chance they are both girls? Girl at the top, boy at the bottom?

The top one in the top picture with the darker stripe that runs all the way over the top of the head is definitely a female. I think the bottom one in the top pic with the lighter stripe that seems to vanish in the neck area is a male.

I wouldn't be too sure. I have two Welsummer chicks that hatched and they looked, at a day old, very similar to yours. They are now three weeks old and they have quite prominent combs, are starting to get some dark feathers on their chests and one is fighting with one of my marans chicks who is also looking very much like a cockerel.

The bird in front is the one which had the dark stripe and eyeliner


The same chick is on the right here, next to it on the left is the one which was lighter in colour.


Again, the one which should be a girl if down colour is right

That is what I thought. So that means that the down colour was not an indication of sex in my case. They were exactly like the OPs chicks, one with a very well defined V on its head, continuing down its back and with well defined eyeliner - now a cockerel.
