I get 8-11 eggs a week from my 3 Welsummer hens, I am happy with their production and eggs color. I love the look of both a smooth egg and a speckled egg whether it is heavily speckled or lightly speckled. It gives me great pleasure to see my egg customers take their cartons and immediately open them and squeal in delight at the various eggs before them. They always ask "What kind of chicken did that come from? " or "Oh...what pretty eggs!"
It also tickles me when they admit to me that they sometimes feel guilty eating such pretty eggs.
I do not show my birds but do strive for SOP in every breed that I raise while also striving to preserve egg color for which the breed/breeds are known for.
I fell in love with the beauty of the bird and temperment. Temperment and SOP's are the first and foremost qualities that I look for in my birds, they must be gentle birds as I would like to donate my birds to 4-H er's with disabilities or other limitations such as finances. My Welsummers fit the bill perfectly!
