Hi everyone!
I had chickens a few years ago (Plymoth Rocks, Australorps, and Wynadottes) but am now considering purchasing Welsummers. I was thinking of getting one rooster and five hens. I was wondering if anyone that has had experience with the Welsummer breed could tell me what their temperment/personality is. Also, I know every rooster is different despite the breed, but are the roosters usually aggressive? Or are they friendly? Thanks!

I have never kept these pretty birds so I can't tell you much. But you might stop by the Welsummer thread and chat with those that do....https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/271757/the-welsummer-thread

I'm glad you joined our "flock!"

I don't have any experience with Welsummers (though I do know that they're beautiful birds!), but I would definitely check out the Welsummer thread link that Two Crows posted. The Welsummer breed reviews should be helpful, too.:Welsummer

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided join our flock. I've had Welsummers in the past and mine have been pretty docile, but frequently standoffish. They would typically tolerate handling but didn't really like it and my children were not as easily able to make lap pets of them as they were of some of the really calm and gentle, dual purpose breeds. I wouldn't say the roosters were either particularly friendly or aggressive. The Welsummer hens are good layers (about 4 eggs per hen per week), and they lay gorgeous eggs. In my personal opinion, their chocolate eggs are the prettiest in the chicken world. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck in getting your Welsummers.

Hello and welcome! I would like to own some Welsummers also in the future. So much fun to experience the different breeds.
