Howdy everyone. New guy here from Virginia. My wife and I are raising our first batch of chicks, and what a batch it is. For the past few weeks we couldn't drive by Tractor Supply without buying a few every time. I'm afraid if I tell how many we got you would think us crazy, but they will be taken good care of and nothing will be wasted. I have a large family living all around me, so I'm partly providing for them too. I converted a shed into a chicken house and fenced in a yard for them to roam around. We got several different breeds, and are enjoying watching them feather out and develop their various personalities. Plan on keeping a couple roosters and any others will be freezer bound which will cut down quite a bit on the numbers, I'm sure. We have several breeds, so as we raise them up we can figure out which ones we like the best and focus on raising just those.

Anyway, we are enjoying our chickens and plumb tickled to death to have found this forum to learn from. I did a lot of reading up here before we went on the chicken binge, and that helped us prepare for our flock. Looking forward to keep getting more information here.

I think you will find more enablers than critics when it comes to the number of birds you have.

That is what we are here for.

from Kansas, we would not think your crazy about the number it is called chicken math we all share in it. I lost 6 chicks so I now have 7 chicks but really only have 2 since I am replacing 2 of the chickens I lost this winter. see that is how chicken math works.
