Hi. I am new to chickens. I have 6 hens from an over supply at a commercial hennery. They are just getting used to their new found freedom and I expect are a bit nervous. They lay well, 6 hens gave 5 eggs yesterday! All went out in the run yesterday and then it started to rain. All but two came back in where it was dry. Two remained outdoors for hours. Then, finally one came in, but one chicken stayed out. She was soaking wet. We had to disconnect the run from the coop and literally scoop her up and put her in the run. I have noticed some stress behaviour in one of them, but the seem to be adjusting well. My question: Is it just stress or do I have a rain loving hen? Can they get sick from getting too cold in a spring rain? (I live in Western New Brunswick). Just want them to be happy birds suppling lots of eggs.

Thanks
Bobbi

They should be ok at that age. As long as it isnt super cold or windy, they should be fine. If it makes you feel better, it is safe to blow dry a chicken on low with a hair dryer. Ours even seem to enjoy it. :)

Thank you for the reply. She is dry and happy this morning. I think they will all be just fine. Love the posts I see here on backyard chickens. Very informative, educational and sometimes amusing.
