I have an english game bantam that has dry pox but looks like its starting to turn into wet pox..symptoms are slight gurgling and shaking of head (almost like she's trying to shake liquid out of her throat) and having a little trouble eating and drinking. When she drinks she opens her beak like she's gasping or trying to swallow. There are no yellow sores inside her throat yet, but her sinus cavity in the inside of her upper beak looks a little yellow/cheesy.The dry pox is on her eyelid area, but other than that and her wet pox symptoms she is preening and walking around. Is there anything we can do for her besides swabbing her inside beak with an iodine mixture? Could the dry pox on her eyelid be causing the other wet pox symptoms? Any thoughts Eggcessive or azygous?

There is no treatment for fowl pox since it is caused by a virus. It has to run it’s course over several weeks. I have never treated it, but aside from keeping her airway clear, I doubt if you can do a lot more. If you see yellow material in her beak or choanal slit, you could try to clean it out. @casportpony has experience with wet fowl pox.

Apparently, the wet form of pox can last for weeks to months. Here is an ancient, but very interesting article about the dry and diphtheritic form of fowl pox:

Only skimmed the article but you're right it does look interesting. Will settle in and read later...I've only treated for dry pox before...is it possible that chickens eyes are connected to their choanal slit inside their beak? Maybe bc her eye is irritated bc of dry pox its draining into her throat....just curious. As of now there is no other cheesy/gunky stuff in her mouth or throat. I've made her comfortable and am applying terramycin ointment on her eye. She's still active and acting mostly normal. Thanks for getting back with me, I will keep you posted.

Quick update..she is much better now. I applied the terramycin ointment to her eye once a day for a week, also to the dry pox around her eye. I cleaned the choanal slit with a weak betadine/water mixture a couple of times, also gave vitamins to keep her immune system up. Thanks again for your help!
