What a Horrible coop owner... So GROSSED out...

Cats don't stay on their own property regardless. I have wanted to put the underground fence collars on ours but am afraid it would hurt them too much. Our dogs have it and they pay attention. Maybe they make it for cats now - who knows. I get frustrated that the neighbors have animals that torment our creatures, I know that when one of our farm animals wanders across the road the "flatlanders" freak out and start screaming that the "Turkey is getting them" when all it is is a wandering peacock. No excuse though, it is our responsibility to keep them home. Most neighbors don't care - in fact they love it - one is a jerk and lets us know it. In fact when we moved the mother in law here and had to go through the planning commission they complained that we had farm animals (we are zoned farm) and the commission said well frankly it is none of your business! I could have kissed them.

We lost our daughters beloved cat because she was crossing the road to hunt. SHe was hit by one of the cars who go way too fast on this road. We have lost a chicken to just that and one of our geese got hit but they would challenge cars and it was obvious that it was a ticked driver on that one - we had been trying to find someplace that could house them that would have a better place. We have since moved them and they are fine - including the hit one - never could imagine that geese would take care of each other like that! Amazing.

Anyway, it is the responsibility of each person to be human and not harm others animals. To take as much care as possible to avoid it. Its just general human kindness. Too bad there are people who are not good humans.

Be really, really careful with the poison, if a poisoned mouse gets into your coop and dies, and the birds eat it, they will also be poisoned. Check your coop every day while the birds are still on the roost, and in between, too. Same goes for dogs and cats...

I do. I am meticulous. I wouldn't do this if it weren't as a last resort. I have had enough. My little bearded, bantam silkies are being attacked and well that just means war. I have sicked everything else I have one them. No more. The little suckers want the silkies pen so we gave it to them... hook line and sinker. Along with the poison. Our pens are all separate. This one is a building by itself and it has its own water, food and is all set in there. I watch it all the way around. I also check all the other buildings all day. I am disabled so I am here. My husband is here too quite a bit lately. My m-i-l is gone on vacation so we locked her cats in so they are not a factor and we have control of our cats going in and out but ours are afraid of the turkey and the one nasty roo we have so they won't hunt at the barn.

Thanks I know I worry too. that just makes me more alert. I hate doing this to anything but I hate having to shoot around the barn too.

let me reiterate and make myself quite clear here because somebody either misunderstood my post or they are a hypocrite with the PM they sent to me...... I do not advocate poisining cats but if they are going on sombody else's lawn who doesn't want them there, the cat owner has a legal and morel responsibility to keep them off their property. Just because cats wander doesn't mean they should! Many folks keep them indoors, and in the case of my parents, theirs has his own coller, leash and line to run.

A loose cat/feral/strange around my property is usually shot on sight. They cause all sorts of problems. This is the first year I didn't put a bullet into a set, but they were so obviously dumped at 3 weeks of age I knew they were no threat. They are now part of the family and sleep with the roosters if they are allowed in.

PS, when I was saying lead poisoning ... I was talking about shooting it. Many of you folks aren't used to a blunt talking hillbilly so I guess I can be confusing when trying to gently explain myself.

Our area has a leash law for cats as well. I don't really understand why people think that dogs should be kept up but it is ok for cats to run free. I'm not trying to start anything here but our neighbors cat's are just as big a nuisance in our yard as someone's dog running loose and can cause a lot of damage. They dig up our flowers, have killed 2 of our landscape trees peeing on them (and these aren't cheap shrubs) and scratched the hood of my car to pieces. I have 3 cats. They go out in our backyard and no they don't go over our fence (too lazy and fat and have never learned they could) but if they did, they would no longer have outdoor access at all. Anyway like I said, not trying to start anything just don't understand the idea that it's not ok for your dog to run loose but seems to be fine for cats???? Just a different point of view.
