What about feeding wheat germ

When feeding the girls meal worms I shook some of the stuff the worms are packaged in - looks like wheat germ - and they went nuts eating it off the ground. Two questions - are meal worms kept in wheat germ? and if so is it OK to feed them wheat germ at other times without the worms?

I'll be interested in the replies, also. I raise my mealworms in wheat bran - and I had to buy a 50 ton bag of it! I've wondered about feeding some to the chickens as a treat . . . good question!!!

The first time I purchased mealworms for the chooks they knocked the container out of my hand and ate mealworms, packaging material (wheat germ?) and all.
Didn't hurt them.

You can use oats, wheat germ, or wheat bran, which ever is the cheapest. All work well.

I have dragons.

Oh, somebody needs to enlighten me on how to grow mealworms for my girls. I know they would love them. Can I buy them? Where do I buy them?
Thanks for any help you can give me.

There have been threads on here about growing meal worms. People say you let the worms turn into beatles and it goes from there. May be try a search for the thread or as always the good ole' Internet.

I buy my meal worms in the sporting department at WalMart. They cost $1.36 for 25 at the regular WalMart and get this $1.98 at the Super WalMart, which seems to be about $.50 higher on everything. Keep in the refrigerator until they are a special treat for the chickee poos! They LOVE LOVE LOVE them.

Someone also said to try crickets since it's a hoot watching them trying to catch them!

Our yard is overrun with crickets. I just carry a cup with a lid on it as I mow the yard and scoop them up. Takes twice as long to mow the yard this way, but the chickens adore them. Been feeding them crickets since they were about a week old.
