What age do chickens lay best?

I was wondering what you all thought is the best and most consistent egg laying time in a chickens life? Is it right after starting pullets? 2nd year layers?

I'd say its like 4-5 months after they start laying because our 2 year old hens dont seem to lay as well as our hens who started a bit ago. Course we have mixes and breeds that just sorta follow the outline of the breed
