I have a 12-13 week old rooster I am going to rehome. I have already found a home but don't know when it would be a good time to let him go. The place I am rehoming already has a 4 year old rooster and I didn't want to rehome him too early where he couldn't fend for himself. I feel like he's still a baby. He isn't crowing yet so he doesn't have to go yet but he is definitely play fighting with the other girls. But the girls are whooping his butt. Any advice? Below is the boy and a girl who were born together.

:love He's a handsome one ... Sounds like his "rehome" will be to be a backup Roo so if that person isn't in a rush and he's not crowing, I'd keep him until he does. Giving him time to gain in size (what breed) & confidence ;) Thing is finding homes for cockerels isn't easy, if you're comfortable with the rehome, he could go now. Hoping they do a quarantine & proper introduction, he'll be fine.

I was very lucky to find a home for him. More lucky out of the 5 chicks hatched only 1 boy. I started sending out feelers the minute my girl went broody so I was pretty diligent. The person he is going to loves his chickens so I'm not worried. He's already in love with my boy so there was a sigh of relief when he wanted him.

He is a mutt so not sure what he is. All I know is he has spitzhauben in him. Got fertilized eggs for my girl since we dont have a rooster.

I am okay keeping him until he starts crowing but didn't know if it should be done sooner. Good advice also to ask him what he thinks is a good time.

They will need a quarantine period , a few weeks , then a time when he’s in a kennel near the others , another few weeks ...

You could send him go now ,
If they introduce him right , it will be a month or more till the battle it out.

Good for you,it’s difficult to find homes
Not trying to hijack the thread, but I feel the need to address this. "Quarantine" means more than keeping a new chicken in a kennel near the others. As a matter of fact, in a true quarantine, you don't want them near each other. That would be a separation period instead. Many backyard chicken keepers don't have the space to properly quarantine (keeping the chickens 100-300 feet apart, using separate equipment, changing clothes and shoes and washing hands between interaction with flocks.)

OP, I would get that boy there sooner rather than later. The older rooster may not see him as a threat yet. That will likely change as he gets older.
