Hello everyone, I'd like to introduce you to little Blackjack (or "Blackie"), a teeny-tiny little chick I got a week ago.

I went to an Amish market/auction with my Aunt, and one of the places I visited was the small animal auction-house. There were thoousands of chicks, hens, roosters, ducks, geese, and even some peacocks!

A lot of the chicks were kept in things like shoeboxes, just gathered up to be taken to the auction to get a few bucks. One of the boxes I opened had a bunch (9) of these little guys in it, although Blackie was the only black one. The others were white, tan, and like grey spotted. The others ran away, but he was just sitting in the corner of the box, completely on his butt, his legs sticking out like he was doing a split.

I found the guy who owned them, and asked what they'd do with the splay-legged one, and he said he'd most likely toss him in the dumpster before the auction started since he'd only entered that his lot had 8 pieces(chicks), not counting the "gimpy" chick. I expressed my horror, and with a smile, the cute old farmer told me I could take him if I wanted him, and I did.

So now he lives with me in my living room, which the rest of my family stays out of because of how hot I keep it; my mom was mad at first, but took one look at his cute little face and wasn't anymore. After a day he was up and walking/running around, pecking and scratching with the best of them, so I'm guessing his legs were just weak, and not splayed.

So I think he's a Silkie, am I right?
