Found the right place for a thread like this. I'm not sure what kind of chick I have here, was just in a bin. Any ideas?



Also, is my RIR a rooster? Anyone have an opinion?

the first chick is a buttercup since it has two combs but the second looks like a buff orp not a rir

to young to tell age. But first one looks like a Butter cup note the 2 combs, that will make a cup shape as she/he grows. I tthink your buttercup may be a rooster!

Oh no! (s)he's my favorite! I already have one I'm about 98% sure is a rooster. 2 out of 5 when it's supposed to be 90% female isn't all that great.

So here is an update. My chicks are between 5 and 7 weeks old now, some are closer to five, some closer to seven. I'd like some opinions on the ones that have either questionable breeds or questionable genders.




This is Delilah, at least I hope it's Delilah. (S)he is on the seven week side. Hen or roo?




This is Gerty, my RIR. I really want her to be a hen because my BF really wants an RIR hen, so please give me good news! Also, on the 7 week end. (S)he has the beginnings of spurs, so I'm a little scared.






This one is Cinnamon. She's a red sex link, and considering the down on her head is still on the yellow side, I'm pretty sure she's a hen. Second opinions are welcome! She's nearer to five weeks.






Here we have Chillie (for Chilly Willy since she looked like a penguin when I got her!). She's also on the 5 week end. Hoping for a hen for this one, but I'm not sure on the breed, so any help on that is welcome too.





The last one here is Sugar. I'm told she's a California White, she's Cinnamon's partner (they love to snuggle together!). Hoping for a hen, but I have no ideas on this one.


Also for the cuteness factor, a picture of the whole brood on their first day checking out and exploring the coop!
