what is the black stuff on a 6 day old chick and how do i get rid of it? thanks in advance! it has been there since hatch day.

it looks like poop on his butt.how do i take it off or well it fall off by itself.its been their since hatchday.

If it has been there since it hatched then leave it.... Sometimes they get pasty butt(poop gathering on their butt)........ but if it has been there since it hatched then the only thing i can think of is something I refer to as an umbilical cord, dont know what it really is called.. Some of my chicks hatch and have it just below their vent. And from what I can tell it is where they were absorbing the yolk before hatch. It will dry up and go away eventually.
