First off thanks for the site, never would have believed. OK, I have Barred Rock, White Rock, Golden Wyandolla?, Delaware's & Production Reds--which I am guessing is Rhode Island Red. Will any lay a white egg? Which are the best producers? How long before they start laying eggs? I have a ton of questions--I'll stop now. thank you. rg's

I think the Barred Rocks and the Production Reds (i'm guessing from it's name?) will be the best layers. Hope this helps!

Production reds aren't RIR's, but should lay better. Depending on the hatchery they came from, they go by several names and are excellent layers of large brown eggs
I'm not totally sure, but don't think any of them lay white eggs. Do you want white egg layers? I just added a couple of California Greys so I could add white to my egg basket.
Austrawhites lay either a cream or white egg. I've heard people say both.

No, not really, just wondered. I like the brown eggs, I have had reds and barred rocks when I was young, the leghorns layed white eggs. What chicken lays the olive green eggs, that's why I was wondering about my white chickens, heard they are low cholesterol. Again, been a long time, my concentration the last 20 yrs has been 4 legged--but I am having fun with my flock. rg's.

x2 I agree

Quote: You have no white egglayers - I agree.

All the breeds generally start laying around 20 weeks or so but there can be variables that make it different (silkies and EEs are a bit slow from my experience). So expecting eggs around that time is good.

Yup the Rocks and Reds are very consistent brown egg layers from my experience. They are hard to beat.

Crossing a Red rooster with a Barred Rock will give you Black Sex Links (BSL's). White Rocks can also be used to make Red Sex Links (RSL's). So those are great breeds to keep IMO.

As for your green egg question, I believe only Easter Eggers lay green eggs. I doubt they are nutritionally different than any other egg though.

They will get along together fine. Both are well tempered, though the BR's being a bit larger will likely be higher in the pecking order from my experience.
