Both my cockerels will stand still and make a noise that sounds like a high pitched whine. The hens ignore them. Anyone know what they are trying to say? THANKS!

This very close to context I see. In many instances the rooster is tracking something in the air some distance away. The call may be such that it is perceptible only to birds close to rooster, like when they are all resting together.I’m not for sure what exactly, however, both my cockerel and hens make this high pitched squeal. I believe it is when something “new” comes into their line of sight. Not necessarily something threatening, just new. Kind of like a “heads up” sound.
