What are my little “extras” from the hatchery??

I have 8 of these little cuties but I’m not sure what they are...

Looks like Rhode Island Reds to me, or at least some sort of red. The only red chicken breed I’ve ever owned is RIR, and that’s exactly what they looked like when they were little.

Could be production reds/RIR/ or even Hew Hampshires. Are they packing peanuts? If so then they are cockerels.

Packing peanuts are male chicks added to the order and in the shipping box if an insufficient amount or no insurance and heat packs for warmth.

Basically, the extra chicks are males for the hatchery to get rid of and provide more warmth for the ordered chicks.

I’m not sure. I’m not a chicken expert, as I only have ducks. I’m not a duck expert, either, heh! I just wanted to say, whatever he or she is... it’s adorable!
