ok.. I snapped a photo of some chicks and was wondering what it was they were doing? When they open their beaks, no sound is coming out? they are not chirping or anything.. Just what is it they are doing?

Look like the Polish is yawning...eyes are closed. The other looks like she just yawned.

Awesome chicks, by the way.

ETA: When I blow in the face of my chickens, they do that too. I don't know why. Sometimes it looks like they're trying to eat the air.

Then again, chickens aren't really smart animals, right?

I was afraid of this too with my chicks, but if I'm seeing your pic correctly, it's just yawning and no cause for concern at all. Unless they develop other symptoms, they're just being normal, healthy chickens

If there are a number of them standing around with their mouths open they are hot. Lot's of birds display this when they are.

shew.. sigh of relief. Thanks everyone.. I hope this is all thats wrong.. I will be moving them this weekend, out of my parking spot.. Just wanted to make sure it wasnt them getting hot.. Do you guys think them being outside is ok here in GA? I have a fan laying above them on the cage.

yeah it says it is suppose to be 96 but feel like 105.. I knew the chickies would need a nice breeze.. They are under the shade though.. thats a good thing

Very cute chicks!! I am in MA and it was 96 a few days ago, my girls were panting in the shade...even when it is not that hot I notice they sometimes open their mouths and no sound comes out....must just be a chicken thing.
