My soninlaw was given these guys as chicks and told they were pom pom runners that they are definately not,
We could see they did not have the top knot when they were little now they have grown I was hoping some one could identify them and tell us what we have.

They are quite likely to be Runners crossed with something else. Their colours are really beautiful - especially that one with the eye stripe standing on the right in the first pic - that one is a little stunner.

All of them obviously have either one or two blue genes. The one on the far left in the top pic seems to also have a dose of two of the Light Phase gene (like a Saxony). Although she looks a bit like a Buff Orpington she is not, because she has eye stripes (Buff Orps do not, as they have the Dusky Mallard gene which removes eye stripes). However she may have one Dusky gene plus Light Phase - not sure!! Anyway, I think there is some Saxony colouring involved, possibly. Either way, their appearance points to a mix, but a very beautiful one!

I hope you are enjoying them, even though they don't have pom-poms :)

Pictures cant seem to capture the almost lace like effect on the outer edges of the feathers all three have it,
It appears "going by call and size" we have a trio, Mary is concidering hatching a batch out for the grand kids just to see what pops out,
The one on the rite of the top pic is the one we think is a male and he makes pictures difficult as he will block the girls or chase them in the coop! Took about a half an hour and 20 waisted shots to get 3 good ones LOL. they are not near as social as our chickens

Yes, totally agree that that is a male. The green bill gives him away :)

The lacing effect on their feathers is what you also see in Mallards, but in your ducks it has been 'diluted' by the blue gene, so it is a much softer effect overall.

I think they are really, really pretty ducks :)

hmm OK I was wondering about that, I will let Mary know we were rite,
I did not know about the bill color as I also thought they were mixed, The only ducks I had prior experience were natives with natural coloring so these breeds are a new thing for us.
