We have never had ducks or geese before but today at school a teacher that we are hatching some chickens eggs for said last night there was 12 baby ducks-geese all by themselves and alone. They managed to catch 7 of them and tonight after school my wife went and picked them up.

We raise peacocks here and chickens but I do not know if these are ducks or geese. Their feet are all black and the fuzz on their bodies is black and gray and they do have a black stripe that runs along the sides of their heads thru the eye.

We had our neighbors come over since they have geese and ducks but they are not sure. At first they thought they were Canada Geese but then one mentioned if so,they would be green in color. Our neighbors also tolld us they eat chicken feed,as in crumbles vs pellets, and without medication in the feed,so wife picked up a bag of 18% non medicated chicken grower feed.

The lady who had them kept them in a big plastic tote overnight with a big bowl of water with wood shavings in the bottom. A few of these were soaking wet and shivering when we got them home but now we have them in a brooder box with a heat lamp on along with 2 newly hatched Dark red Throat Ornamental pheasants and they all are now dry and getting along.

Our neighbor says they cannot swim becuase the mom puts the oil on them. I didn't know this but now aside from not knowing if they are geese or ducks, how to care for them. We hatch peachicks each week here so they will have company along with newly hatched ornamental pheasants. Feeding them won't be an issue,as long as what we feed them is correct. But how long before they don't need heat? I have several empty pens outside once they grow some that they can be put in all by themselves but want to get them off to a great start first. Help please? Here is 2 pics we just took of them, hope someone can tell us what they are.

Just got a text from the lady who caught and gave them to us,,they said a dead duck or goose(they don't know which) was found along the side of the street dead. I asked the wife to text this lady back and see if they can locate the other 5 because without a mom and being in a good sized town I imagine a cat or dog will have them gone soon. I'm glad we got at least these and saved,or can hopefully save them.

Beautiful little ducklings. No idea what sort, though. They´ll need it very warm the first week, gradually reducing the heat by 5 º each week. By the time they´re a month old they should only need heat during the night if it´s chilly. One thing I do when they´re a couple of weeks old is put them into a small, closed cardboard box at night and I put them on top of the aquarium to keep them warm. Although they love water, they´re better off not getting into it, as they´ll get chilled. They´re delightful. As they´re ducklings, why not try posting on the ducks thread to see if anyone can help more?

Wood duck ducklings. Best to use a floating duck pellet and live food to get them eating. Getting them eating is the biggest challenge. Also be forewarned, they can climb out of titles if there is no top, I use wire over the top.
