What are they saying?

I have 2 pullets squatting, moist vents, no laying, visiting next boxes on the regular. This has been going on for about 2 weeks now. While free ranging, these 2 follow me when I go to the chicken area of my property and carry on like they're trying to tell me something. I've placed them in the nest boxes, placed them in the coop, but still no eggs. I revoked their free ranging for a full day in case the other girls were preventing them from laying. I've visited areas they like to hang out at while free ranging, no eggs or remnants of eggs.

Are they just not quite ready to lay, or is it because the non layers behave as a separate flock from the layers, or maybe something else?

Any help deciphering this chicken language is greatly appreciated!

They're almost 4 months old. Seems early for them to lay. My layers had slightly larger combs and such when they started laying.
They are probably starting to feel egg laying hormones, but might not start laying for another month or more. I wouldn't worry about, they will lay when they are ready!
