We have Rhode Island Reds, Leghorns, Red Stars, Barred Rocks, Americaunas, and some mixes & mystery breeds mainly for laying(and enjoyment). Although we do cuddle the RIR, Americaunas, and Barred Rocks. We also have LF Cochins, Polish, Brahmas, a Silver Sebright, a Frizzle Roo, a Golden Cuckoo Maran Roo, and some mixes for pets and pretties(and a few eggs). We have Silkies, Bantam Polish, standard Polish, LF Cochins, Ayam Cemani, English Orpingtons, French copper Marans, Frizzled Cochins, Frizzled Wyandottes, and Frizzled Polish in the incubator that are supposed to hatch on the 21st. They will be for Pets, Pretties, and showing(which we have never done before).

We love them all, but our top 2 I think would have to be the Cochins and Polish. Are there any just GREAT breeds that would add more egg colors, Frendlieness, Eggs, or Color to our flock? Let us know what your favorite breed is, and what breeds we are missing in our flock!

Chanteclers and Ameraucanas are my personal favourites. What works best varies with the climate, though. If you're not in a cold climate I'd recommend Leghorns, which you have already. Those are some great little birds. I took a liking to Svarthonas too but I didn't find them to be winter hardy.

I looked up the chanteclers and they are beautiful! We live in Texas, so we don't really have that much of a winter. Are the svarthonas the ayam cemani chickens?

No need for them, then, and they would most likely not do well in it. Ditto with the Ameraucanas. My Silvers really struggled in this summer, and I even lost one.
Svarthonas are similar to Ayam Cemanis but aren't exactly the same. They're pretty close, though, especially to the average eye. They're both fibromelanistic single combed layer type birds.

Sussex. Great for meat or eggs. Both sexes are docile and curious. Rich literary history to learn about the breed. Lays eggs with a light brown tint.
Best,
Karen

Are there any other breeds we are missing? We are going to the East Texas Poultry Trades Day On September 22nd, and we need to know what breeds to specifically look for...LOL!
