I just gave 4 roos away and now I still have 3 or 4 with my 15 girls. I have narrowed it down to two roos that I would like to keep but was wondering what one would be better to breed. They are buff orpingtons and about 4 months old.

The first one is the taller of the two. He is really golden and shiny but I am thinking maybe to shiny? I thought that they were supposed to be the same color top and bottom. He is not. He is also not really fluffy like a BO should be.

The second is not as shiny but I am leaning toward him being more of the BO shape and size. He is shorter but thicker overall and his legs really thick. He is really fluffly, way fluffier than in the pics. he prolly has the nicest feathers of all my BOs. He is not really shinny but his color is more uniform all over his body.

There is a third one but im not even gonna put pics of him up. He is to tall and huge and just akward looking. this is gonna sound funny but I also think that there is somthing mentally off about him. Hes just not right. I dont plan on keeping him for breeding but he has such a funny personality Im giving him his own pen and maybe a few ladies and im just gonna eat the eggs out of that pen when the time comes.

So what does anyone think? Who is a keeper? I know I will just end up breaking down, putting up more fencing and keeping them all though.

I'm going to tell you what everyone told me last year at this same place in my chicken career...

WAIT.. they are too young yet to tell.

they were right too because around 6-7 months old they really start developing in new ways.. and as it turns out.. the one I thought looked best at 4 months.. was the worst looking at 7 months.

Go figure. For best results, wait a while longer.. as long as you can really!
