What bred of goat is this?

Did the person you get them from explain what their breeds might be? The doe looks Nigerian Dwarfish to me.

No... they did not know. I got them from a guy because the goats had just wandered to his house and made their home on his porch. They are super tame and friendly. He was unable to locate a possible owner. We will keep them unless someone comes looking for them.

Their shoulders are about to my knee and I am 5' 4. Seperate them? Are you kidding me? I cannot keep them in one pen and you want me to keep them in two? (I think she is preggers already) Last nite they escaped and when we got home from the carnival this is what we found...

And then of course we put them in again. This morning we found them in the cellar! We had to door open on it to air it out... no pictures of that though I wish I had taken some. I don't know how people keep goats. We have sheep and they don't escape near this well. My husband told me not to get attached they will have to go if they keep getting out. I would just let em loose because they don't seem to want to leave... but I have a brand new car. I have heard goat like to climb such things.

If she is already pregnant, then you can get away with keeping them together...for now. Pymiges and Nigerian Dwarves are both year round breeders. As soon as she gives birth, he will rebreed her. As you can imagine, back to back breeding would be detrimental to her health.

What type of fence do you have? Electric? If so, I found my goats have never respected an electric fence, even when taught about it. They simply are willing to take the shock to get to the other side. I watched my goats push through the fence, screaming the entire time as it zapped them! But once they were out, they were happy.

You know what I found works great? Simple cattle panels, 50" high and 16 feet long. They're very sturdy, and my goats stay inside. Even my buck stays in his pen when he smells a doe in heat. I don't keep my goats alone, btw. My buck has a wether companion. And all my girls are together. But I am sure you could get away with keeping the doe and buck next to each other...in a pen right next to each other. You could also wether the buck. That would solve the overbreeding problem.

We have the same sort of panel fence for our sheep. It's the gates that they shimmy under. They have stayed in for a couple hours now this morning so we may have fixed the problem. Can I put him with my bucks? And her with my ewes? They get very upset when seperated but I will seperate them after she gives birth so he doesn't breed her again right away.

That would be a great idea! They might be a bit upset at first, but since sheep are herd animals too, they should adapt to their new buddies.

Ahh yes, the under the gate shimmy. I know that well! I have a round wooden post attached to the underside of my gates. The gate can still swing open just fine, but it clears the ground only by a centimeter or two. It stopped under the gate escapes. I also made my gates 'one way'. They can only swing inward, not outward, because I have a cinder block as a gate stop.

I also had to attach hardware cloth to my goats, as I had kids escaping through tiny gaps. At least kids go right back to their mother after a little romp, but still.
